Un arbuste bas à feuilles persistantes. Il pousse 3-4 m de haut. L'écorce est grise et lisse. Il devient écailleux quand il est vieux. Les feuilles sont comme du houx. Ils sont brillants sur la surface supérieure et inférieure. Ils sont coriaces. Ils mesurent 1 à 4 cm de long. Les fruits se produisent seuls ou par paires. Il a des écailles pointues sur la coupe autour du gland. La coupe mesure 1 à 3 cm de diamètre. Le gland mesure 1,5 à 3 cm de long{{{0(+x) (traduction automatique).
