: La racine ou le corme est lavé à plusieurs reprises en cendres pour lessiver les composants toxiques, puis cuit et mangé.
Les feuilles sont bouillies pour éliminer les toxines, puis cuites et mangées.
Le rhizome est consommé comme aliment de famine. Il nécessite une cuisson et un lavage réguliers avec de la lessive de cendres.
