Une herbe qui pousse d'année en année. Il pousse de 20 à 45 cm de haut. Il forme des touffes qui se propagent lentement. Les feuilles mesurent 4-13 cm de long sur 0,1-0,3 cm de large. Ils sont étroits et peuvent être plats ou roulés vers l'intérieur. Ils sont rugueux sur la surface supérieure. Les bords sont épaissis et tranchants. Les tiges mesurent 20 à 45 cm de long et sont minces et raides. Le capitule ramifié mesure 7 à 10 cm de long sur 1 à 2,5 cm de large. Il existe des groupes d'épillets séparés.
