Un arbuste. Il atteint une hauteur de 1 à 2 m. Il peut mesurer jusqu'à 8 m de haut. L'écorce est grise et lisse. Les feuilles sont en forme d'épée et mesurent 1,5 à 5 cm de long sur 0,5 à 1,5 cm de large. La couleur du vert peut varier mais les feuilles sont plus pâles en dessous. Les fleurs sont très petites et vertes à jaunes. Il y a 3 à 10 fleurs en pulvérisation à l'aisselle des feuilles. Le fruit est une baie ronde de la taille d'un pois.
