Un petit arbre. Il atteint une hauteur de 5 à 10 m. Il peut s'étendre jusqu'à 3 à 10 m de large. Il y a souvent plusieurs tiges. L'écorce est rugueuse et brune. Il se décolle en longues bandes. Les branches pendent vers le bas. Il y a 6-8 aiguilles coudées. Les feuilles pendent vers le bas. Les feuilles sont réduites à de minuscules écailles sur de longues branches fines. Les fleurs sont séparément mâles et femelles. Le mâle est en petits épis et la femelle en grappes rondes. Les fruits sont des cônes bruns et ligneux.
