Les tiges poussent vers le haut à partir d'une grande racine pivotante. Les feuilles sont étroites et ont un canal le long d'elles. Les feuilles sur la tige enserrent en partie la tige. Ces feuilles se rétrécissent en une fine pointe. Les capitules sont jaune pâle. Chaque fleur contient 8 bractées en forme d'épée. Les fruits sont ronds et moelleux. Ils sont constitués de plusieurs petites nucules. Chacun a une petite plume comme des poils{{{0(+x) (traduction automatique).
